Hammerhead Mole® pneumatic piercing tools from U Mole are ideal for the installation of utilities under existing landscapes and/or structures. The tools create a compact bore's in displaceable ground into which underground pipes, ducts and cables in sizes 1mm – 180mm OD can be installed. The use of the equipment greatly reduces the disruption to the surrounding landscapes, buildings or normal traffic flow.
With a comprehensive range of over 20 machine sizes from 50mm – 200mm OD Hammerhead moles offer long life, quality, performance and reliability as standard.
New to the Hammerhead range are the Catamount™ 67mm, 75mm & 111mm moles featuring a new concept in reciprocating head technology which makes them the world easiest starting piercing tool.
Hammerhead moles feature: -
- A patented clamped rear anvil that allows easy field maintenance with no requirement for special tools, solvent cleaners or adhesives
- Heaviest one-piece strikers in the industry giving high impact performance
- Replaceable internal wear rings that eliminate metal to metal contact decreasing wear and offering a sustainable level of performance across the lifetime of the tool
- A proven range of reverse mechanisms including ¼ turn Power Port ® , multi turn screw and air reverse systems
- Active head and standard fixed head variants to cover a wide range of ground conditions
The right tool size for the job: -
With more than 20 models ranging from 50 to 200 mm (2" – 8"), U Mole have a Hammerhead piercing tool to meet your needs and any ground condition.
When selecting a mole for the installation of pipes ducts and cables two basic rules apply: -
- Size of mole: -
The outside diameter of the mole to be utilised should be at least 10% larger than the OD of the pipe, duct or cable being installed. This is to accommodate the shrinkage in the bore once the mole has passed through the ground.
In practical terms this means that a 50mm OD mole is suitable for installing pipes, ducts and cables up to 45mm OD, and a 200mm mole is suitable for pipes, ducts and cables up to 180mm OD
- Depth of cover: -
When using a mole, to ensure that it does not rise to the surface during operation, the minimum depth of cover equating to 10 x the diameter of the tool is required.
In practical terms this means that a 50mm OD tool should be used at a minimum depth of cover of 0.5mtr and a 130mm OD tool at 1.3mtr depth.
This is a general rule of thumb and the type of ground cover above the tool may dictate it can be used shallower.
Hammerhead Mole® pneumatic piercing tools supplied by U Mole are operated in many different locations and ground conditions and to help operators complete more successful bores a range of labour saving and safety related products are available as standard.
This range of equipment includes: -
- Launch cradles and pin-less shoring systems for increased bore accuracy
- Dielectric boots and gloves for increased operator safety
- Front and rear pipe pulling accessories for restricted access locations and unstable ground conditions
- Slip on front expanders for completion of larger bores with smaller moles
